Anyone love scones as much as me?!

I was attempting a scone recipe to use at Christmas time w/ my side of the family.  Especially since I can make & freeze them.  When we’re ready to eat them just pop them in the oven…

THEY ARE GUUUD!!  Normally when I find a recipe I have to tweek it.  Only 3 times have I found a recipe that we didn’t need to tweek.  This is one of them.  AND I used 1/2 regular flour & 1/2 white whole wheat flour.  Normally, when using whole wheat flour you have to add things because otherwise it comes out dry.  This didn’t happen!  AWESOME 🙂  Check out Grandma Johnson’s Scones at AllRecipes.com.  I can’t wait to try different flavors: cranberry, choc chip, cinnamon chip(was great!), plain sugar(I bet good w/ coffee), blueberry, etc…

I will be making these again in the next week or two and will take pictures of the process I used.  It is different than what is described in Grandma Johnson’s Scones recipe online, but ingredients are the same.  My youngest, Logan, was snatching(I didn’t know he knew how to snatch yet) my scone away from me.

Grandma Johnson’s Scones…my way

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 egg
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon chips(have fun with the possiblities out there)

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, blend the sour cream and baking soda, and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
  3. In a food processor, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt. Add tabs of cold butter into mixing tube while the processor is on.  Blend until crumbly texture.
  4. Add the sour cream mixture and egg into the flour mixture.  Pulse processor until just moistened.
  5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly adding in cinnamon chips. Break dough in half.  Roll or pat dough into 2 rounds. Cut into 12 wedges, and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown on the bottom.
