My last 30 minutes

Posted in The Blasco Kids tagged , , at 9:46 am by mottoblasco

  • Sit down to look at Pinterest (which lasts all of 20 seconds)
  • Andra tells me Jayna is poopy.  Go get her & see AJ’s butt cheeks, so he needs a diaper change too.
  • In a cheerful voice say “Diaper change!”  Jayna comes running signing ‘diaper’, AJ come running and just yells in my face.
  • Ignore him & walk her to the table, AJ follows yelling.  Remind him not to yell.  Change her, successfully.  Then while changing him, she climbs on the side of the changing table & he kicks her in the face.  Scold him & move on.
  • After done realize the diapers are still not put up from 2 days ago, put them away.  Decide to do the homemade wipes wash, grab it & go to the kitchen.
  • When in the kitchen grabbing stuff, I find a hand soap refill bottle I was looking for last week.  Decide to refill that too.  Get the soap out & I hear AJ hitting the vent w/ the big wooden whistle.  Go stop him so as not to wake my brother.
  • ~~Hang on ~~ insert “Mom, mom, mom, mom…” here
  • Hear Jayna on the table, turn to look…yup ON the table
  • Go get her down, notice there is spilled milk on the floor from AJ
  • Grab a napkin to wipe it up, in the background hear a stirring of my coffee cup
  • Turn to see Jayna ‘typing’ & stirring my coffee
  • Go get her down, clean up coffee all over desk(luckily it’s not on the computer)
  • Realize you never finished the soap & wipes wash…go try to finish.
  • While getting the soap you need from the bathroom, turn off 100 lights that the kids turned on and open curtains/blinds in 4 rooms.
  • While doing the soap & wipes wash I hear AJ banging on the floor when I investigate it he’s not just banging something on the floor, it’s a bowl…the contents of which are all over the floor around him.  His little sister is eating the smashed cereal he has dumped and is currently smashing.
  • Eventually I make it back to the kitchen to finish my 2 minute tasks that have now spanned 20 minutes easy.
  • Somewhere in the mix I changed clothes too…just not sure where, probably when I was opening the curtains

“I..I..I app..ppreciate it”

Posted in Uncategorized at 7:16 pm by mottoblasco

My most heart wrenching encounter so far and it just happened today.  Words can’t express the emotions I feel and the sadness because I don’t know how to do more.  I don’t post this for you(or thanks or glory or anything for myself), only for a reminder of how I feel right now so that I NEVER forget to help those in need.

A homeless man, dead of winter

Sitting on the side of a road

Car after car, driving by

No one even pausing to help

Not even myself, only a prayer

Am I really so busy I can not stop?

Second time by, that little voice

Calling me to help this man

First try, hat and scarf

“I..I..I app..ppreciate it”

Second try, food, drink, and money

“I..I..I app..ppreciate it”

Third try, needed gloves

“I..I..I app..ppreciate it”

Drive away, breaking down

“LORD!  What more can I do?!”

Wanting to help, but how

“I’ll come back tomorrow”

“I..I..I app..ppreciate it” is all he ever said

I went into a store looking for gloves and it’s full of new clothes, coats, hats, scarves, food…yet only 1 pair of gloves could I find.  At one point I thought “Seriously?  No gloves?”  But then the thought came to me (or the still small voice spoke to me) “How far will you go for this man?” Despite knowing my family needed me to bring back the groceries for dinner I continued to search.  Finally, 1 lonely pair of black gloves.  As I stand in line I see people buying stuff that they don’t need and it saddens me that I just did the same thing before seeing this man.  Thank you Lord for allowing me this experience so that I may change my ways for the sake of your children.

How can you…

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:22 pm by mottoblasco

How can you say you follow him

and live your life for him

If you still let yourself be of the world?

If you see a man, asking for money on the side of the road…

Do you think, “If I give him money he’ll just buy booze?”

Or is it “God, I pray that you will help him in his circumstance”

If you see someone who is obviously struggling with life…

Do you think, “I wish they would get it together?”

Or is it “Lord, send them someone who can share your love”

If you find yourself upset with your spouse…

Do you think, “Geez, doesn’t he/she see how upset i am?”

Or is it “Christ, help me to not be upset over such trivial things”

How can I get ahead if I can’t even keep up?

How can I get ahead if I can’t even keep up?

Laundry: do a load, after wash cycle is done kid poops on bed…requiring another

Kids: feed the 4, then baby cries…feed another

Discipline: work out the sharing schedule, they fight again…discipline another

Dishes: clean kitchen, make dinner…wash another

Workout: kids join, only lasts 10 mins…gain another

Nap: should do something, only sanity time…again another

Husband: needs time for himself too, watch kids more…for another

Night away: run errand, hang w/ friends…neglected another

I know when u have kids you’re supposed to sacrifice & put your self 2nd…but I feel like I’m in last.  Behind kids, baby, husband, dishes, dog, laundry, clean house, yard, groceries, cooking.  And most importantly, where is God’s placement.  I’d like to say he’s first…but does that show?  When’s the last time I picked up the bible, outside of church.  When’s the last time we studied the word together.  I know he’s feeling the same way, but we can’t find the solution.  I’m not asking for stuff, just time.  For me.  But then that’s selfish cause the children come first (it’s come full circle).

Homemade Exchange

Posted in Homemade...everything tagged , , , , at 10:10 am by mottoblasco

So my husband and I talked one day about trying a bunch of different homemade products, but since I am a SAHM of 5 kids, 2 of which are being Homeschooled I don’t have much free time on my hands.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a party where we could try a lot of different products.  The Homemade Exchange was born!

I emailed all the ladies I thought would be interested in being envolved and a few weeks later the day came.  There ended up being 11 participants(only 1 couldn’t come but was still able to contribute & benefit from it all) & 12 products 🙂

I will try to post links to give credit where credit is due as most of us got our ‘recipes’ from the www known to most of us as Pinterest 🙂

Dishwasher detergent, Tub/shower cleanerToothpaste, Hand soap

Lotion, Lip balm, Powdered Laundry Detergent, All-purpose Healing Salve(forgot to add this to the picture)

Gel Air Fresheners

Deodorizing discs

Liquid Laundry Detergent

I am so excited to try these  I just got them in the mail.   I got 12 for $2.99(bought 2 packages though) and shipping was only 99c each package.  Each one is 1/3 c. according to the website and ‘invented’ by a kid…awesome in my book!  They shipped fast too!  I will let you know how well they work after we have used them.  Check them out for yourselves!

UPDATE: We have used these with good success.  I mostly put juice or leftover smoothies in them.  Relatively easy to clean but if not, cheap enough to throw away!  Worth the price paid!

Crockpot & Freezer cooking

Posted in Deceptively Delicious, Mmmmmmm fooooood at 12:22 am by mottoblasco

If you are on Pinterest (it’s a dangerous thing…but LOVE IT!) you may be seeing the Crockpot or Freezer meal craze going on. Really, it’s hard to miss but I am all over it. This family of 7 is not lending to the chef I’d prefer to be. I am more like a short order cook these days. Anyways, I am testing many of these meals that seem appealing to our family in the next few months and will be rating them according to our system(basically I got sick of John saying ‘It’s good” or “kinda good” or “really good” or “I’ll eat almost anything but NEVER make those black bean brownies again please”

If you care to see which meals are making the list check out my Pinterest board here.  I’ve already compiled a book of New Recipes to try, which included many more than what is on my board.  Either way, I have tried several recipes already and plan on 1-2 new recipes a week.  This week’s menu has Starbucks Chocolate Bread…mmmmmmmmm

Homemade dishwasher tablets THAT WORK!

Posted in Homemade...everything tagged , , at 5:49 pm by mottoblasco

Finally on my 5th attempt at a recipe for dishwashing detergent I found one that works!  Follow her instructions exactly and you will get great results.  I have 5 kids,  and hate chemicals that are in so many things.  Combine that with the fact that we are a family of 7 living on 1 income I have to be frugal/thrifty/cheap…call it what you may.  I found this thru Pinterest (thank you to the inventor of Pinterest!) and tried it.

A few notes:

~I have a baby and the nipples don’t get that greasy, white stuff on them nearly so bad.

~Make sure that your ice cube tray makes tabs that fit in the dishwasher…mine don’t 😦  I gotta cut it in half each time I wash a load.

~You NEED to top the tab w/ a little Dawn(like Jillee says to do) 🙂

~You NEED the vinegar in the wash too.  Pour it over the top or put it in a cup, just make sure it’s in there!(like Jillee says to do) 🙂

Homemade dishwasher tabs

P.S . I am loving her blog now!  I’ve found several homemade ‘recipes’ for things that I will be trying very soon!

My recipe collection

Posted in Homemade...everything, Mmmmmmm fooooood at 10:12 pm by mottoblasco

I love new recipes, especially when you find a GOOOOOOD one!  It took me several tries to get a system that works.  So here is my first picture blog post.

How it starts, clippings from all over.

Next stick it in a binder…got this idea from someone’s blog

but sorry no link to give credit 😦

Next make notes.  I will try a recipe at least 3 times…unless it’s black bean brownies…NasT!   If it’s too much effort to tweak the recipe, in the trash it goes.    I am constantly marking notes, w/ brand names of ingredients, ideas for next attempt, and the star rating(I had to make this up for hubby to help me out).

When it’s golden, and I mean golden…it can make it into the Recipe collection book.  These are all at least 4 1/2 star recipes, ones that I plan on passing down to the kids & grand kids.  Some of the recipes in this book have been handed down to me from my parents, their old French restaurant, grandparents & from all over the place really.  And since I’m an organization freak, it’s color coded 🙂  Organization makes me smile!

Mason Jar Tumbler Lid ~ DIY

Posted in Homemade...everything tagged , at 9:14 pm by mottoblasco

I LOVE!!!! my mason jars.  This is a new found love.  My husband says they are so homely (he he…he means homey, I laughed hard).  Anyways, I saw them all over Pinterest & Etsy, 2 very dangerous sites for me!  I wanted some since we are beginning to get BIG into Juicing and hubby wants glass to drink from & to be able to take it with him.  I didn’t wanna pay $20 for a glass bottle nor $6 for a lid w/ a hole especially since there are 7 of us.  So here goes on my very short tutorial.

tumbler lid

First…go to her site here    and follow her directions.  😀  I LOVE the plaid lid she shows, I wish I could’ve found them.  But here’s my take on the whole process.

I followed her directions on both the metal & plastic lids.  The plastic was easier in my opinion.  Once you make the hole on the plastic you can pretty much just pull the shavings off.  With the metal lids you have to use tin snips or something like that to cut the metal pieces  MAKE SURE your grommet it 3/8″ INSIDE…I made that mistake at first and now have 10 grommet’s I’ll never use 😦  I got my grommets from Amazon.  All my straws are 3/8″ that I got from Etsy and Amazon.  We have some Acrylic, these are hard non-piable and  we have some non-BPA plastic which are closer to disposable straws.

I bought the wide mouth, cause I love how they look.  And I bought the 24 ounce & 12 ounce jars.  The straws are too tall for the 12 ounce jars so I cut down some of the non-BPA straws down.  We love them!
